All of the caches in this series refer to the Greylock School 4th Grade Campout. This annual trip, which is the highlight of the year, is something the students look forward to from the day they start school at Greylock Elementary. Students who have older brothers and sisters grow up hearing about the campout and wait in anticipation.
This particular legend is one of my fondest memories of the 4th Grade Campout. As a new staff member of Greylock Elementary School, many years ago, the principal, Mr. Boisvert, wanted to make sure that I felt welcome and was included in all aspects of the school programs. He invited me to the annual campfire and asked me to help him and the other staff members tell this legend to the students. I didn't expect to have such a big role in the telling, but I sure did have a lot of fun!
Dogs are allowed in the campground area, but must be on leashes. Dogs are not allowed on the beach or in the park area. During the open season there may be a parking fee in the park area.
