The Mooreville Cemetery is located about three miles west of Milan near the rural community of Mooreville. The village was named for John L. Moore, who came from New York and settled here by the Saline River in about 1830. He was subsequently appointed the first postmaster three years later. When the railroads decided to build their tracks through Milan instead of Mooreville, the community declined and many of its buildings were moved to Milan. While “caching around”, why not take a look at the abandoned church located along the Saline River and the commercial center of the village that once boasted a general store, gas station, and township hall.
