Geocache Description:

Greater Boston area geocachers unite to clean the Earth! :) This is a special CITO day across the globe, with events in countries as far as South Africa, Sweden, Czech Republic, UK, many Canadian provinces and all across the US, including Alaska! There is another event in Lawrence, MA the same day. We will clean in Newton, MA, a beautiful area along the Charles River!

Here are the details for the Newton event:

Date: Sunday May 1st, 2011
Time: 10:00AM - 12:00PM
Where: Norumbega Park, Newton (next door to Marriott Hotel)
Who: Geocachers with their four legged friends, kids, spouses and friends! The more, the merrier!

The initial coordinates may change slightly after I confirm with City of Newton where exactly is the best spot in the park to meet and leave the trash at the end. So, check the log entries and update your coordinates closer to the event again!!

For those of you new to the area or to geocaching, there are a few very nice caches in the area, including North America's oldest cache and a couple "paddle to" caches.

For those die-hards looking for another event that day, we can head on to Lawrence for the other CITO starting at 1pm. (visit link) (GC2NJGJ). I hope the events are far enough from each other to draw enough people at each event, and we have scheduled them in such a way so you can attend BOTH the same day if you would like! :)

Bring gloves and heavy duty trash bags. I will have a few trash bags to supply myself.

We will meet between 9:30 and 10am, we can divide in teams of 2-3 people and take off at 10am towards different areas of the Norumbega Park, Auburndale Park or across the river at the "Ducks Feeding" area. We will regroup at noon to collect all the trash bags and take our final photo shot.

You can bring trackables to exchange with others at the end of the event.

About International CITO Day:

Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers have been dedicated to cleaning up parks and other cache-friendly places around the world. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!

Annually, we celebrate International Cache In Trash Out events where geocachers have an opportunity to participate in coordinated worldwide clean-up efforts. Geocachers host clean-up events in their local area on the same day or weekend as other geocachers around the world. Together, we make an enormous positive impact. Did we mention that we also have a bit of fun while we are at it?

The 9th Annual Cache In Trash Out Events are scheduled for April 30th & May 1st, 2011.

Hope to see you there!

To get to the meeting point, from Rt 30 (Commonwealth Ave), take Melrose St and then third left on West Pine St. There is a huge parking at the end of the street, and a large picnic area to the left of the main entrance to the ball field. We will meet at one of the tables between 9:30 and 10:00am.
