Geocache Description:

The Topeka Owls baseball field was just a short way from this cache. I remember sitting in box seats and watching the game once when I was a child… a very young child.

The Owls played from 1939 to 1942 and again from 1946 to 1954. They were affiliated with the St. Louis Browns from 1939 to 1940, the Chicago Cubs from 1951 to 1952 and the Chicago White Sox from 1953 to 1954.

The players were paid about $150-$200 a month, plus $2 a day for food and transportation when they were on the road so most of them held full-time jobs during the week and played ball on the weekends.
