Llanferres #4 Sonny-Jim Traditional Cache
Croesgadwr: Having found my final cache, and with my geo-motivation having ebbed, and the thrill of the caching experience having deserted me, it’s time for me to say farewell to the world of geo-caching (for a while at least). I have decided that it’s time to archive my more demanding caches (to me at least, by way of maintenance etc). Thanks to everyone who chose to go look for this cache, I hope you found it a worthwhile experience.

On the way back to the car now, down hill all the way...Oopp's watch that cattle grid.
All four of the caches in this short series have had to be replaced – three went ‘missing’, and the fourth became unobtainable when the area became overgrown with ferns & gorse. Please replace the caches exactly as you find them.
The hints are specific, and any spoiler photos are there to assist you if the hints are not specific enough.... After walking up these hills you need to be rewarded with ‘finds’... and I’d love you to find them!!
A short-course series of geo-caches set out on the hillside just outside the village of Llanferres. I'm a big admirer of the "12 days of Christmas" series placed close-by by 'hawkeyeone'. I'm so much of a fan that I didn't want that series to end. I enjoyed each of them so much that I thought I'd populate this hillside with a few quick and easy caches.
A brief resume of each of the caches follows:-
#1 Big John - ... just isn’t ‘big’, but his host might be?!
#2 Flora & Fauna - ... is a fake....a fake I say!!
#3 Pill Box - ... the only real one amongst the bunch (and my favourite).
#4 Sonny-Jim... he’s not my son & his name ain’t Jim...he’s attractive though!!
There’s no common theme between my caches, they are just pretty standard in fact....but whilst walking the route take a look around you - the views are amazing! All of the caches are micro sized, but some have ‘Hosts’ that are quite large. Any hints given are for the ‘Host’ object.
Following the public footpaths / bridle paths will take you to each cache in turn. It’s your decision whether you do them #1 to 4, or #4 to 1. Any reference made by me is based on #1 to 4. One cache is located on the very edge of the forest, all the others are in open areas.
None of these caches are particularly hard to find. They are all disguised in one way or another, but each relies on its surroundings for its primary security. Please ensure you leave each of the caches exactly as you found it, this will enable subsequent searchers to enjoy the hunt to the full.
The first part of the route is up hill, and gets quite steep at times. Flora & Fauna marks the end of the up-hill leg of the walk, and as they say “It’s all downhill from here”. Estimated time for the short-course is around an hour for the 1.5mile hike around the forest. At no point did I go through the forest, apart from when placing a cache at the forest edge. Flora & Fauna would be my choice of stopping place for a ‘rest halt’ should you happen to need one.
Enjoy the experience, enjoy the walk & the views...after all it doesn’t always have to be about numbers!
Feedback is always welcomed, so feel free to PM me with your thought on this series if you wish...
