2. Crymlyn Nature Reserve - Balloon Field Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cheesescones: This one hung on for a good while after its brethren were archived but it's clearly in bad shape and I can't get to it for maintenance for the foreseeable. Thanks to all who visited.

Geocache Description:

A cache placed just outside the balloon field.

During WW2 there was a barrage balloon tethered in this field, one of many placed in the valley to protect Llandarcy. The concrete and metal anchor points are still easily found in the grass. The ruins of the house used by the women who tended the balloon can be found covered in foliage on the edge of the field.

The warden tells me that this area can be prone to flooding after very wet weather. Wellies may be sensible after wet periods during winter. There are often horses grazing in this field. Please close all gates and keep dogs on a lead. There is open water nearby.

Car park is locked at 6pm. For more information, please see Crymlyn 1.

The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) manages Crymlyn Nature Reserve (www.ccw.gov.uk) and this cache was placed with the kind permisson of the Warden.
