Haslam Park Multi

A pleasant stroll around one of Preston’s historic parks which is now over 100 years old. This is a cache which the whole family can enjoy and will take less than 90 minutes to complete in a relaxed way.

Parking: leave your cachemobile @ N53 46.290 W2 43.894 making sure not to leave any valuables visible
Step 1: Proceed to starting point @ N53 46.223 W2 43.920 where you will discover that the park was opened in 19A0
Step 2: On to N53 46.246 W2 43.998 where you will learn that there used to be a swimming pool in the park which was sadly closed in 198B
Step 3: Continue to N53 46.255 W2 44.032 to a fine, old and now defunct utility which used to provide unlimited rehydration for thirsty visitors. You will notice that there are C rounded points decorating each one of its four arches.
Step 4: Carry on a little further down the Lime Tree Avenue and confirm that it has a total of D benches along its length
Step 5: Proceed to N53 46.345 W2 44.373 the western portal and notice that it has E steps leading up to the decorative gates
Step 6: Now move along a short distance to N53 46.359 W2 44.323 where you will be amazed to discover that the old Tulketh Cotton Mill which you can see clearly to the east across the park was constructed using F million Accrington bricks (I wonder who counted them!?)
Step 7: Stroll along a little further to N53 46.450 W2 44.111 where you will be able to admire a large wooden sculpture. One of the objects depicted is an easily recognisable tree fruit. Using alphanumeric values (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc) the 2nd letter of the name of this fruit has a value of G
Update 13/9/16: It seems that this clue is no longer available/visible - the fruit is that of the oak!
Step 8: Just a few metres away in the information provided @ N53 46.469 W2 44.120 you will be interested to learn that amongst the coniferous trees planted in the Nature Reserve is a type of Cedar. The first letter of this type has an alphanumeric value of H
Step 9: Now head along and up to join the canal @ N53 46.579 W2 44.000 and note that the number of the bridge is 1J
Step 10: Walk along the tow path heading east to N53 46.451 W2 43.851 where you will see a signpost which shows that Catforth is K and a quarter miles from here.
Step 11: Head back down into the park @ N53 46.436 W2 43.848 and head for a special interactive area of the park. At N53 46.366 W2 43.996 you will discover that L is the alphanumeric value of the first letter of the name of this company which made the benches provided for visitor relaxation here.
Step 12: Move along to N53 46.296 W2 43.974 and note that there are M windows (= window sills) in the more westerly of these two buildings (where the Ranger's office is located)
Step 13: Not far away @ around N53 46.259 W2 43.982 you will see that there are a total of N swings in the kids playground.
