Cache
The cache is located in the Danville Town Forest just off one of the trails. It is a regular-sized lock 'n lock and is not winter-friendly. Please be sure the cache is covered so it is not found by muggles. There is a FTF prize of an unactivated geocoin.
The area where the cache is located is near a wetland with an active heron rookery. You may want to pack binoculars to get a better view of the herons that nest in the tops of the standing dead trees in the middle of the wetland. The wetland provides the heron nestlings with protection from raccoons and other predators. Other wildlife activity you may be lucky to see are beaver, otter, muskrat, bullfrog, hooded merganser, and painted turtle.
The wetland area is a dynamic system which is influenced by beaver activity so trails may be flooded at times. The town has put up some temporary “No Trespassing” signs in the forest to minimize the disturbance of the herons while they are nesting. Please respect these signs.
Puzzle
- Complete the jigsaw puzzle by placing the colored pieces within the boundaries of the 10 x 10 grid. None of the pieces should overlap each other nor should the pieces extend beyond the outside boundary lines.
- Some of the puzzle pieces contain clues to how to place them on the grid. The puzzle can be solved with or without these clues; it is just more difficult to solve if you don't use the clues.
- When the puzzle is completed, make note of which pieces land on a square with a letter on it. For each piece that lands on a letter, count the squares in the puzzle piece.
- Solve for the final by substituting the numbers for the letters: N42 5a.bcd W071 0e.(f+g)hi
