This cache was hidden for the Spring Cache Challenge. Do not look
for it before 6pm, Friday, May 6, 2011!
Yogi Berra is widely regarded as one of the greatest catchers in
baseball history and spent most of his 19 year Major League career
with the New York Yankees. This geocache is intended to recognize
not so much the player, but the character he was, and many of his
best known malapropisms.
I've always loved Yogi Berra quotes - they make you wonder if he is
a true genius, or somewhat devoid of intelligence. We'd like to
share some of his doozies, especially as they can relate nicely to
geocaching:
- "It ain't over till it's over". A widely recognized (and
overused) quote that can speak to the persistency displayed by some
avid geocachers tackling particularly difficult caches.
- "This is like deja vu all over again." The redundantly
stated feeling you get returning to search, again, for a cache you
DNF'd.
- "When you come to a fork in the road, take it." How simply
understated and useless, like when the hint is "pinetree" in a
dense jackpine forest ...
- "You can observe a lot just by watching." Really? -
Although good advice to sometimes stop watching the arrow on the
GPSr and look up when you're getting close.
- "Yeah, but we're making great time!" - In reply to "Hey
Yogi, I think we're lost." - Don't just plunge on through
because the trail goes that way, or its the easiest path to follow.
And ... carry spare batteries and mark your starting waypoint so
that you can return after your hike.
And perhaps my all time favourite:
- "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're
going, because you might not get there." How true.
You're looking for a tucked away, camouflaged lock'n'lock.
Since you're in the area, why not take a quick hike to retrieve
another nearby cache?
Out in Left Field A huge amount of work was done to turn
the Central Avenue Ball Park into a great facility - incidentally
these fields co-hosted the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship.
Enjoy the area and say hey to Yogi!
