Geocache Description:

This is my first hide! Castle Island, home of Ft. Independence, is a great spot for sitting out in the sun, reading, jogging, walking, fishing, sight-seeing, picnics, naps. It was originally an island before it was filled in to build the shipping yard.

Take in the salty air and great views of Spectacle Island and the busy harbor entrance. There's a playground on one side of the fort and a fishing pier on the other. The planes from Logan Airport fly right over you during takeoffs and landings, and you can get really close to the cargo and cruise ships coming and going in-season. Cruises are pretty constant on weekens through October, and departures are usually from 4-7pm. Snap a photo if you see something you like and upload it with your log! The harbor is very busy on weenkends so there's plenty to see. You can even dance along to the music from all of the party boats.

Though muggle traffic is extremely high, you can easily sit down at the cache and blend in so you don't look suspicious. The cache is small and contains log book only (BYOP), but there is room for trackables. The park is open year round and plowed in the wintertime, but if winter is anything like January 2011 GZ will probably be buried. Please log a note when the log book is almost full. I plan on visiting some of the real Boston Harbor islands before the summer so I may turn this cache into a series.

Congrats to Froedo Bagginz for FTF 3 hours after publishing, assisted by HostaHead, WolfTamer! and WindWaker1.
