When I placed this cache I had no idea what I was going to call it. I was averaging coords and turned to check out the crow that was making so much racket, then I saw it. Not more than 20 feet away a Barred Owl. Pulled out my phone and got some shots. Then I just stood near him checking him out for awhile. Eventually I headed back to grab my GPSr and turned around to check him out one more time and watched him fly away. Thanks for caching. Please note tree cover makes perfect coords hard to get.
Barred Owls are medium-large owls with brown eyes and no ear-tufts. They are gray-brown in color, with light mottling on their backs. Breasts are barred horizontally and bellies vertically, with a clear demarcation between the horizontal and vertical barring. Barred Owls are slightly larger than the closely related, similar-appearing Spotted Owls.
