Geocache Description:

Just as Painters Run enters Bridgeville, it makes a sharp turn to the north. The eastern bank is a steep hillside and looks like it has never been developed, although early settlers may have mined an outcrop of the Pittsburgh coal. It was probably logged at one time also. Now, it is a home for deer and turkey (wear orange in season!), and the stream has had ducks on it every time I've been here. When I placed the cache in early April, wildflowers were everywhere.
Parking is available off Vanadium RD on the west side of Painters Run. The bridge has a sidewalk. I walked down the abandoned road, then followed an ATV trail for a bit, but it soon ends. Then you have a decision to make - high or low. If you drop down to the streamside, the going can be muddy at times, and you're hopping over downed trees. If you stay on the hillside, the deer trail heads the right way but can get precarious when crossing some slide areas. Just be careful and have fun.

Edited on 11 April 2019: The upper "trail" is pretty much gone, so you'll need to follow the stream.

My round-trip hiking distance was 0.7 miles. On the satellite picture, it looks like you can come up from the south also. If I find a path that way, I'll edit this listing. Cache is an ammo can in a standard hide and has an unactivated TB as a FTF gift. While researching the area, I read the Wiki entry for Bridgeville. In it, I learned that Bridgeville is "8 furlongs southwest of downtown Pittsburgh", that the area is "1.1 square miles (2.8 km2), all of it underground" and the mayor's last name is McCheese. Don't you just love Wiki ?!?!?
