To all the families out there with servicemen past present and future... BE ENCOURAGED. BE THANKFUL. NEVER FORGET.

Wanted to share my Dad's story with you... graduating Highschool in the midwest in '68 my Dad like many of others during that time found himself either choosing to enlist or being drafted. Dad was one of many brave souls who entered military service to find himself in US Army basic training in Ft. Lewis, WA. Dad used to tell me that he knew the outcome of his training was a ticket to Vietnam like so many around him.

Eventually graduation came and the orders were to be handed down the next day. At a pinball on base that night my Dad told me he made his deal with God... in a short prayer that included, "God if you... then I..." he signed and enlisted in the army of heaven.

The next day as his graduating class had received their orders to SE Asia and were boarding buses Dad was to board the last bus in the line with the last group of new soldiers. As it happened, the driver closed the door and the same time the CO got orders to divert some of the men to US Operations in Europe. As the men gathered to the front of the bus to find out why there was someone running to the bus with paper waving over head standing in front of the bus was the answer to Dad's prayer.

Dad always at this point in the story had mixed emotion and was troubled by both the relief and sorrow of the moment. It was one of those moments where I saw my dad smile with tears... as he remembered how the commanding officer asked for any volunteers for European service. One of the many that jumped through the window in the front of the bus, as other guys crawled out the windows and poured out of the emergency exits... was my Dad.

God allowed him another 30 years of service before he graduated with honors fighting cancer with family and friends gathered to watch him as he continued to follow God with the same dedication he did as public servant (postal over 35 years), husband (30+ years), father of two, and presently serving in an unseen but very real Army of Heaven that surrounds us everyday.

Attached is the photo I recently recieved from the Department of the Army showing my dads orders from Ft. Lewis as you can see he was typed to go to Vietnam until he was penciled out...

God Bless You, Your Family, And Your Prayers...
