Centralny plac Bialegostoku obecnie nazywany
jest Rynkiem Kosciuszki. Jego przebudowa, po pozarze miasta w 1753
roku zajal sie ówczasny wlasciciel Bialegostoku - hetman Jan
Klemens Branicki. Do dzisiaj zachowalo sie kilka budowli powstalych
w tamtych czasach. Najwazniejszym obiektem jest stojacy posrodku
placu Ratusz z wieza zegarowa, ukonczony w 1761 roku. Budynek
pelnil funkcje handlowe, znajdowaly sie tutaj kramy kupieckie, w
wiekszosci nalezace do ludnosci zydowskiej. W 1939 roku Rosjanie
zburzyli zabytkowy Ratusz, ale w latach 1954-58 przywrócono jego
pierwotny stan. Obecnie miesci sie tu glówna siedziba Muzeum
Podlaskiego w Bialymstoku.
Przy Rynku stoi tez hetmanska zbrojownia tzw.
cekhauz. Jest to barokowo-klasycystyczny budynek w ksztalcie
typowego dla XVIII wieku dworku szlacheckiego. Co dziwne, nie
sluzyl jako zbrojownia, a magazyn do przechowywania sprzetu
strazackiego. Dzis znajduje sie tu Wojewódzkie Archiwum Panstwowe.
Obiektem zabytkowym jest równiez dawna austeria czyli karczma
zajmowana dzis przez restauracje Astoria. Jest to budowla
dwukondygnacyjna, pokryta mansardowym dachem z lukarnami, ze
scietym narozem z balkonem ozdobionym portykiem i frontonem
wspartym na dwóch kolumnach.
Najbardziej efektowna jest jednak zachodnia
pierzeja Rynku Kosciuszki. Kolorowe fasady odbudowanych po wojnie
kamieniczek kryja galerie, ulubiona kawiarnie plastyków Marszand,
ksiegarnie Akcent oraz sklep Desa z antykami. Elewacje budynków
zdobione sa przez dekoracje wykonane technika sgraffito, obok
elementów roslinnych, wizerunków zwierzat, postaci muz i ich
atrybutów widoczne sa portrety ludzi zasluzonych dla regionu. Latem
przed kamieniczkami okoliczni malarze wystawiaja na sprzedaz swoje
dziela.

The central square in Bialystok is now called
Kosciuszko‘s Market. Its redevelopment by owner of Bialystok
- Hetman Jan Klemens Branicki took place after the city fire in
1753. To this day, survived a few buildings created at that time.
The main building in the middle of the square is the city hall with
a clock tower, completed in 1761. The building served as a trade.
In 1939 the Russians destroyed the historic City Hall, but it was
restored to its original state in 1954-58. Today it houses the
headquarters of the Podlaskie Museum in Bialystok.
There is the building called hetman armoryby the
Market. It is a building in baroque style in the shape of a typical
eighteenth century manor. Oddly enough, it has served as an armory,
and firefighters‘ warehouse for storage. Today there is a
Provincial State Archive. There is also a historic inn and tavern,
today it’s occupied by the restaurant, Astoria.
Most impressive, however, is the western
frontage of the Market Kosciuszko. Colorful facades of houses
rebuilt after the war, hide gallery favorite artists café Marszand,
bookstore Accent and antique shop Desa. The facades of buildings
are decorated with decorations made by the technique of sgraffito,
next to the items of plant, animal portraits, figures of the Muses
and their attributes are displayed portraits of distinguished
people in the region. In the summer in front of the houses the
local painters offer their works for sale.
