Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed and is looked after by pupils from Castle Douglas Primary School. We hope that many people visit our cache. Please write your home town and country in the cache log and in the website log so that we can add you to our geodisplay in the school.

The cache can be found very close to the Threave Estate footpath and there is a good view of Castle Douglas from the cache site. The Threave Estate walk is a pleasant family walk. The cache has room for a few small swops.
There are two other caches on the Threave Estate Walk
- Branch Line
- Kelton Road

There are a few starting points for the cache which is located very close to the footpath on the waymarked Threave Estate walk.
The footpath can be muddy and narrow in places, is not suitable for wheelchairs and stout footwear is recommended.

For more information on the walk go to (visit link)

The Estate Walk begins at N54°55.584, W003°56.875 where there is a small car park. Parking is also available in Threave Gardens at N54.55.395 W003 56.867 which is worth a visit.

An alternative starting point is in the town of Castle Douglas. Park in the town and walk to N 54°56.356, W003°56.513. A footpath from there leads to the Threave Estate walk. Return to Castle Douglas downhill along road bordering Threave Gardens and then along the lochside pavement.

The walk can be extended to take in another cache Stepping Stones (Threave Castle) (GC1G3M2).
(Go from footpath junction at N 54°56.009, W003°57.221).

Threave Castle, (54°56.345'N, 3°58.177'W) ancient stronghold of the Douglas family, is readily accessible from this walk and well worth the detour. Leave the footpath beside an old railway bridge at 54°55.912'N, 3°57.444'W. The castle walk starts from the nearby farm. A small boat takes you over the River Dee to the castle.

Please do remember to write in the log book and on the geocaching site where you are from and, if possible, email us a picture of your home town for our geodisplay in the school.

We hope you enjoy finding our cache.

Please remember to log your home town and country when updating your log to the Geocaching website - thank you.
