Botanična pot do indijskega lotosa
Botanična pot v zdraviliškem parku v Šmarjeških Toplicah vodi do jezerca, ki ga napaja izvir tople vode. V njem raste redka rastlinska - indijski lotos. Poleti je gladina vode gosto prekrita z velikimi povoščenimi listi, nad gladino pa se ponosno dviga več sto nežnih rožnatih cvetov.
Simbolika posebne rastline
V poletnih jutrih, ob prvem svitu, se lotosovi cvetovi počasi dvignejo iz vode in začno razpirati cvetne liste. V pripeki dneva se cvet popolnoma razpre in se razkazuje v vsej svoji lepoti. Ko sonce zaide, se cvet zapre in potopi v vodo, iz katere se naslednje jutro spet zbudi. Lotos tako poleg lepote, neusahljive življenjske moči in deviškosti simbolizira tudi duhovno rast človeka, ki se iz teme nevednosti dviga k svetlobi spoznanja.
Redka naravna znamenitost
Ta rod lotosov, ki je v terciarju rasel po vsem svetu, ima danes naravna rastišča le še v nekaterih predelih Azije in Avstralije. Do sedaj je veljalo, da indijski lotos na prostem pri nas ne preživi zime. S svojo rastjo na toplih izvirih je lotos v Šmarjeških Toplicah, ki daje zavetje številnim želvam in ribicam, še toliko vecja posebnost in zanimivost.

A botanical path leading to Indian lotus
The Botanical Path in Šmarješke Toplice's spa park leads to a small lake fed by a hot spring. In it thrives a rare plant – Indian lotus. In summer the surface of the lake is covered thick with big, waxy leaves above which several hundred showy light-pink flowers rise gracefully.
The symbolic meaning of this special plant
On a summer morning, at first light, lotus flowers slowly rise from the water and start to gently uncurl their petals. In the heat of the day the blossom is completely open, gleaming in all its beauty. At sunset, the flower curls its petals back up again and retreats down into the water, from which it re-emerges the following morning. So the lotus – in addition to beauty, unfailing vitality and virtue – also symbolises man's spiritual growth, rising from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge.
A natural rarity
This lotus genus, which thrived across the globe in the Tertiary, can nowadays be seen in its natural habitat only in some parts of Asia and Australia. It was widely believed that Indian lotus could not make it through our winter out in the open-air. But the Šmarješke Toplice lotuses, which provide shelter for many turtles and fish, owe their uniqueness and eye-catching quality to the habitat on top of a hot spring.

Botanischer Weg zur indischen Lotosblüte
Der botanische Weg im Kurpark von Šmarješke Toplice führt zu einem kleinen See, in dem eine heiße Quelle fließt und in dem bereits seit vielen Jahren die bei uns sehr seltene Pflanze - der indische Lotos wächst. Im Sommer ist die Wasseroberfläche dicht mit den großen wächsernen Blättern bedeckt. Unter der Oberfläche ranken sich stolz mehr als einhundert zarte Blütenknospen.
Die Symbolik der einzigartigen Pflanze
An Sommermorgen, bei Tagesanbruch erheben sich die Lotosblüten langsam aus dem Wasser und die Blütenblätter beginnen sich zu öffnen. Während der Hitze des Tages öffnet sich die Blüte völlig und zeigt sich in ihrer ganzen Schönheit. Wenn die Sonne untergeht, schließt sich die Blüte wieder und versinkt ins Wasser, aus dem sie am nächsten Morgen erneut erwacht. Die Lotosblume symbolisiert – neben Schönheit, unversiegbarer Lebenskraft und Jungfräulichkeit – auch die geistige Entwicklung des Menschen, die sich aus der Dunkelheit der Unwissenheit zum Licht der Erkenntnis erhebt.
Eine seltene Sehenswürdigkeit
Dieser Stamm der Lotosblume wuchs im Tertiär in der ganzen Welt. Heute sind die natürlichen Fundstellen des indischen oder roten Lotos in einigen Gegenden Asiens und Australiens. Bis heute gilt, dass die indische Lotosblume im Freien bei uns den Winter nicht übersteht, deshalb ist die in Šmarješke Toplice, die zahlreichen Schildkröten und Fischen Unterschlupf bietet, eine große Besonderheit und Sehenswürdigkeit.
