Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates but is less than 2 miles away

Since cachbefound was kind enough to provide Just The Facts about geocaching, I thought I would contribute as well by providing just some of the facts about California. I know there are a lot of interesting numbers but don't let them distract you from the solution.

All The information necessary to solve this puzzle is on this cache page.

  • Mount Whitney has an elevation of 14,495 feet and Bad Water in Death Valley has an elevation of 282 feet below sea level. These highest and lowest points in the contiguous United States are just 84.6 miles from one another.
  • Some of the giant redwoods in Sequoia National Park are more than 2,000 years old.
  • In Pacific Grove there is a law on the books establishing a $500 fine for molesting butterflies.
  • Alpine County is the eighth smallest of California’s 58 counties. It has no high school, dentists, or banks. It has a single aspect light traffic light that TeamOttlet found on Google Street View at N38 46.536 W119 49.427 and only one ATM that xophe sees every year.
  • After the discovery of gold, Eureka! a Greek word translated "I have found it!" became the California motto in 1849.
  • California's Mount Whitney is the highest summit in the lower 48 states.
  • Monterey’s Jazz Festival held in September is the oldest of its kind in the entire world.
  • Inyo National Forest is home to the oldest living tree species. Some of the gnarled Bristlecone pine trees, which only grow at very high elevations, are thought to be over 4,600 years old.
