The Bedford Heritage Trail is in the first phase of planning for
a larger trail to link the Bedford Springs Resort, Ft. Bedford
Park, and Old Bedford Village with a pedestrian/bicycle oriented
trail. Until the larger project is complete, the Bedford Heritage
Trail invites visitors to explore historic buildings and places in
the downtown Bedford area either by walking or biking a 1.3 mile
loop. The trail will use the Ft. Bedford flag emblem (shown above)
on signs and sidewalk markings for visitors to follow.
This cache is located in the Bedford Historic Memorial Park
Cemetery, located at the corner of John and Juliana Streets. This
is the final resting place of some of the country's earliest
settlers, including Revolutionary War Veterans.
The Memorial Park is open to the public, however, suggested
hours for visitors are between dawn and dusk. Please respect the
local residents and do not hunt for this cache at night.
The coordinates take you to the information stand at the center of
the Bedford Memorial Park. The cache is NOT at the posted
coordinates. The coordinates of the actual cache location are
in the format of N40 00._ _ _ W078 30.1_ _. You will need to use
the following information in combination with the map of the
cemetery on the information stand.
The last three digits of the North coordinates are the same as the
last three digits in the year that Nina A. Kirk, daughter of ML
& FE Kirk, passed away. Her marker is located in the plot for
displaced gravestones.
The last two digits of the West coordinates are the same as the age
of Lieut. Col. Levin Powell as recorded on the tablet marking his
final resting place.
All stages involved in this puzzle, including the final, are
located within the cemetery grounds. As noted above, please respect
the cemetery hours and be respectful of the cemetery grounds; this
is a very easy hide and will not require moving or damaging
anything.
Permission for this cache was given by Sally, the volunteer
caretaker of the Bedford Memorial Park. Thank you Sally for the
hours of work you put in to keep this area beautiful for the
community.
Special thanks to Dennis and the 'Crack Staff' of the Bedford
County Visitors Bureau for making this series happen!
As an added note: there is a Letterbox here in the cemetery as
well; if you find it, you should check out letterboxing and log
your find. Just keep in mind that it is NOT the cache.
