Geocache Description:

BELMONT LAKE STATE PARK

Game starts at 10:00 am

Potluck picnic after noon when the game ends

All geocachers are invited to investigate the murder of Mr. Cache by finding a series of geocaches that will provide clues as to who did it, where, and with what weapon. The first to solve the mystery wins a prize.

4/23/11 - More information is available. I've added some details and addressed some of the questions that have come up. Bookmark this page to keep updated with more info.

5/7/11 - Another small update to the event page.

THE FACTS:

- Belmont Lake State Park charges $8 per vehicle without an Empire Pass.

- We will be meeting at the picnic area just west of the playground (use the coordinates posted above). Please arrive before 10am if you intend to participate in the investigation. 12pm is good if you just want to join the picnic.

- This event will be held RAIN OR SHINE. If it does rain, we have one canopy to cover part of the picnic area. If anyone else has one, please bring it along.

- The terrain of Belmont Lake State Park is pretty flat. Bicycle paths access just about every area of the park - these are paved or hard packed gravel/dirt. Minimal bushwhacking will be necessary to participate. However, be advised that Belmont Lake is a wet place by nature. The paths may have puddles in areas and the terrain can get extremely messy as soon as you leave the path. Dress appropriately - especially footwear!

- Poison ivy is abundant in some areas. We've done our best to avoid hiding any caches in a poison ivy patch, but you will need to use caution when leaving the trails.

- The rules of the game and all pertinent information will be provided at 10:00 am. The investigation will proceed immediately afterward. The game is expected to last at least two hours, and participants will travel a minimum of 4 miles in the process of investigating the murder.

- Teams or individuals are welcome to compete. Each team should have at least one GPS and cell phone with them while out in the field. A cell phone will be needed in case any team needs to contact the home office during the investigation. Also, all teams will be called in when the murder is solved.

- You do not need to participate in the game to attend this event. When the investigation is concluded, we will convene for a potluck picnic sometime after 12pm. Everyone is encouraged to bring some food or drink to share. Following is a link to a sign up page. Please let everyone know what you can bring for the picnic.
