Another historic site in Coolidge.
The Borree family (Nelson and Josephine) had a grocery and dry goods store at Borree's Corner, west of the future townsite of Coolidge. In 1929 a filling station was established on this site. These corner stations around the area were developed for the families in the cotton camps. In the 1920s and 1930 agriculture development in Pinal County took place at an incredible pace. Coolidge, Casa Grande and Eloy boomed and land was placed under cultivation and water was pumped for irrigation. During the Dust Bowl entire families moved west from the Plains to pick cotton in Arizona. The Department of Agriculture document migrant workers in Pinal County Cotton camps.
Later this corner was the location of a local bar. The building remained until a few years ago. For the last few years it stood the sides were painted with pictures of the local history. All that remains is the fireplace and walkway.
This information is the best we could get, we will update as we find out more info.
Congratulations to We C*M for the FTF!
