Geocache Description:

Located in Troy Township, Ashland County, Ohio. Placed on private property with permission.

Troy became one of Ashland County's 15 townships back in 1846, but actually got its name eleven years earlier in 1835. Despite much discussion, the townspeople and officials of the township could not decide on a name. Nathaniel Clark, who was known for his sense of humor, sardonically suggested that the township be named after his dog, Troy. Well...it was! Thus, Troy township in Ashland County, Ohio is named after someone's dog! One more interesting thing: the old Reed House restaurant in nearby Nova, Ohio was a sort of saloon and inn back in the day. In fact, there was even a place for people to board their horses during a visit.

My wife got me my GPS as a Christmas gift to help relieve some of the stress I feel when driving. Since it was the most soothing and easiest to understand voice, I chose a female voice for the spoken directions. My youngest daughter heard the voice and, for some reason, named my GPS Susie. So, in her honor (the GPS, not my daughter) I have named this cache Susie's Trading Post.

Susie is all about the swag! She loves trades! Along with the usual fare, I try to keep some fairly nice stuff in the cache. Since most cachers don't usually carry around extra nice swag, don't worry about trading equal or greater value--just do the best you can. If you see something you really want, just throw in something you happen to have and take it. That's the way Susie wants it. First-to-find scores a $5 gift card to get some lunch, compliments of Susie, and a disguised Bison tube geocache with log ready to hide or give away to somebody else to hide.

The cache is accross the ditch along a lightly traveled back road. If you want to get off the road, you're welcome to pull into the end of the driveway at N41.04943 W82.33379. You will have to get over or around a roadside ditch and possibly walk through a small stand of little trees or weeds, so be careful, watch your step and watch for poison ivy. If poison ivy is a problem, just walk around and come at it from the poison-ivy-free direction. The cache is within 20 feet or so of the road, so you don't have to walk through anyone's front yard to get to it. Keep looking--it's there somewhere. Be sure to put EVERYTHING back EXACTLY as you found it so the next person can have the same fun you did! If you happen to see any people at that nearest house, just smile and wave. Its an entire family of geocachers so trust me, they get it.

C'mon folks...don't just slow down and then drive on without stopping...yes, we saw you! It's clear up in the front corner of the yard so don't worry about it being on private property. Susie is very nice and very friendly. Just stop and visit the cache already...sheeeesh! ;^)

Cash is in a very large tupperware-like container. Daytime hunting only please! And if you would, PLEASE mention in your logs what you took and what you left. It'll be a lot of fun to see how the swag evolves over time. Thanks to all of you who left little notes and comments in the log. I do pull it out and read through it from time to time.
