This circular walk is approx. 5 miles in length and is generally along clearly marked and well maintained footpaths. It consists of 14 caches and an optional extra bonus cache. The main walk can be completed in about two hours, or if you're like us and have small children, then maybe four!
Great Bardfield and Finchingfield are peaceful North Essex country villages, both with windmills. This series of caches will take you from Great Bardfield, which was mentioned in The Domesday Book of 1086, marking the beginning of the village's recorded history. It was well established in the time of the Anglo-Saxons, who gave it the name Bardefelda, which is thought to mean 'open land colonised by dependent peasants'.
About half way around this short walk you will discover the picturesque village of Finchingfield, where you can rest a while and enjoy the view.
Some of the caches contain part of the coordinates for the Trail of Two Mills Bonus Cache. The codes you need are written on the back of the logbooks.
