The Texas Spirit
Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near
cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the
many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before
us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities
across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The
cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries,
tombstones and local
lore.
Right around the corner from the cache's location, in the
front yard of the first house on the right on Pin Oak Drive, you
will see the headstone for the grave of Sarah Rector, who died here
in Mountain City in 1888. Due to adverse weather conditions at the
time, her body could not be taken back to Bastrop to be buried with
her late husband. Please do NOT approach the grave, as it is on
private property.
Note that this cache was originally flagged as Puru's Impromptu 10:
First There is No Mountain, which has been relocated down the road
so that this installment of the TSQ series could reside here
instead.
