The remains of this trestle is well worth stopping to view. There used to be a cache here and it was recently archived so we decided to put another here to give cachers a chance to view some really interesting history of the area. Construction of the railway that eventually came through here began in 1911 and the route was planned from Victoria to Sooke Lake, Shawnigan Lake, Youbou and Port Alberni. The federal government took over construction in 1917. Construction was halted In 1921 at the south end of Cowichan Lake. In 1928 construction continued to the small logging community near Kissinger Lake and the railway never went further than that. The railway was decommissioned and the tracks were torn up once the logging trucks started carrying wood. The Trans Canada Trail is planned to continue out to this area in due course. We hope you enjoy this view as much as we do. PLEASE PARK WELL OFF THE ROAD.
