Geocache Description:

Birkenhead Park was designed by Joseph Paxton and was opened in front of over 10,000 attendees on 5 April 1847. It is generally acknowledged to be the first publicly funded civic park in Britain. American landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted visited the park in 1850 and subsequently incorporated many of the features in his design for Central Park, New York.

The Grand Entrance is the main entrance to Birkenhead Park and contain the North and South Lodges, both of which are Grade I listed buildings, and have recently been restored.

To find this cache you will first need to discover the part co-ordinates that are hidden within two of the other caches in the lower park.

Please note, that although the park is open to pedestrians at all times, the large vehicular gates are locked at dusk. If you are attempting the cache in the evening it is advisable to leave your car outside the park so it does not get locked inside.

Thanks to the Birkenhead Park Rangers for all their assistance in placing this cache.
