It may surprise you to learn that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II slept almost on this very spot on at least 2 occasions, both before and during her reign.
Confused? Let me explain..........
In 1951, Princess Elizabeth was on board a Royal Train traveling through this region and as night fell, the train made its usual overnight stop next to this bridge (only now partially remaining). In 1963 and now Queen, she was once again on this line, en route to various engagements. On both occasions (and several others), the Royal Train stopped here for its occupants to take a quiet rest. It was considered safer for the overnight stop to be made in the middle of nowhere so to speak. The Queen and other members of the Royal family were then able to rest without the constant rumble of the engines. Each time this happened, buses were laid on to convey passengers that would usually be traveling on this track in the early morning. This gave the Royal Train chance to start up and continue on its journey to places such as, Leamington Spa in 1951 & Coventry in 1963. There are several other documented instances where the Royal Train and its occupants over-nighted here too. So, don't forget to curtsey or bow as you approach this ROYAL BOX.
It is also worth mentioning that a visit to the 'Pig Place' (at the parking) is definitely worthwhile, especially if you have mini cachers in your party. There are lots of piglets, sheep, ducks, chickens and Geese and the proprietors are happy for you to come and take a look.
We hope you enjoy this cache 'with a reason'.
