Geocache Description:

This is the second in a series on or near the bridges over the River Teme in Worcestershire..
The original Eastham Bridge was built in 1793. Until then the inhabitants of Eastham had to travel to Tenbury or Stanford to cross the river safely if the local fords were impassable. At the same time a new road was made from Court Farm. The bridge was originally a toll bridge with a charge of a half penny for pedestrians and one penny per wheel for vehicles. In 1908 the county council bought the bridge and tolls were no longer charged. You can still see the lilac tree that grew in the garden of the toll house.
Mr CW has spent many a happy hour leaning on the parapet of the bridge.
Sadly in May 2016 the bridge collapsed. For almost a year the inhabitants of the village had a long detour. But happily in April 2017 the new bridge was opened. Some the bricks from the old bridge were used to clad this new bridge. Unfortunately the next generation of young boys are going to find it very hard to lean on the parapet as it is now very much higher.
