Geocache Description:

A short Multi to remember a Dark-Time

Civilians in the battle of the bulge.

Also to be pitied were the Luxembourgers who remained at the mercy of the Nazi security forces even while the Americans were pushing the front line toward them.

On Friday, December 22, the Day that Patton’s troops began their first assault on the salient, agents from the Gestapo Kommando in Clervaux descended on Crendal, where they arrested Ernest Lamborelle and his two sons, Georges and Michel. All three were accused of having molested a family suspected of collaborating with the German occupier during the liberation in September 1944. The sons, moreover, were charged with membership in the resistance and Miliz. Father and sons were badly mistreated and locked up in Clervaux, where they were joined almost immediately by Jean Heck. A farmer, Mr. Heck had been taken away by the Gestapo during a raid in Weiswampach aimed at seizing his brother Jean-Pierre. As they had failed to capture their intended victim, the frustrated agents had grabbed Jean as a hostage instead.

All four prisoners were taken away on Christmas Day. Their corpses were discovered not far from Clervaux around the middle of February 1945. Each of them had a bullet hole in the neck.
