This is number 13 in a series of caches inspired by a list of 100 must-read novels I discovered a couple of years ago. It is not necessary to have read the book to find the cache. There is something about the location that makes me think of the novel.
Tolstoy's War and Peace is probably most famous for its length. It is, however, a rich, historical novel (it is set 60 years before it was written) with the backdrop of the French invasion of Russia by Napoleon's forces. The church played a big part in the lives of nobles and peasants alike.
Woodburn has a large Russian community, and this is one of several Russian Orthodox churches in the area.
