A Keleti-Mecsek geológiai szerkezetét csodálhatjuk és tanulmányozhatjuk a Duna-Dráva Nemzeti Park Igazgatóság által létrehozott Várvölgyi Földtani Tanösvény segítségével. A magyaregregyi strandtól a Pásztor-forrásig tartó tanösvényen hét kőzet feltáródását figyelhetjük meg, és az ott elhelyezett tájékoztató táblák segítségével megtudhatjuk korukat, kialakulásukat, szerkezetüket. A Mecsek növényvilága délies elemekben gazdag. Jellemző erdőtársulásai a mecseki karsztbokorerdő, mészkedvelő tölgyes, cseres tölgyes, gyertyános tölgyes, bükkös és sziklaerdő. Hazánkban csak a Mecsekből ismert a bánáti bazsarózsa (Paeonia officinális subs. banatica), az arany baraboly, a Mecsek és a Villányi-hegység közös növénye a majomkosbor, a lapickásfű és a baranyai peremizs.A mecseki flórajárás bükköseiben, gyertyános tölgyeseiben él az olasz müge.Sziklás erdőkben találjuk a keleti zergevirágot, mely a Dél-Dunántúlon kívül csak a Keszthelyi-hegységből ismert hazánkban.

A megtaláláshoz a következő kérdésekre keresd a táblákon a választ: 1. Melyik korban található meg a fosszilis Aptychus? 2. Hány% augite vulkanikus kőzet (vulkanite) van a Mescekben? 3. Hány millió évves a radiolaria (első szám)? 4. (Választható) készíts fényképet magadról a séta bármely pontján. a válaszokból összeáll egy email cím, ide küld el a nickneved. The geological structure of the Eastern Mecsek Mountains is to admire and study in the Danube-Drava National Park where an educational nature trail along the Várvölgy was built. De geologische structuur van het Oost-Mecsek gebergte is te bewonderen en te bestuderen in het Nationaal Park Donau-Drava, waar-een educatief natuurpad werd gebouwd langs de Várvölgy. Vanaf de camping in Magyaregregy start een wandeling langs zeven borden over de vorming van en de leeftijd van de bergen Er is een rijke flora en fauna en de verschillende kenmerken worden beschreven. Kenmerkend voor het gebied zijn de kalkhoudende eik, zomereik, haagbeuk, beuk, en de Banaat Peony.

De wandeling begint bij de opgegeven coördinaten. Als je het pad volgt naar boven vindt u informatie over 7 verschillende borden.
