Geocache Description:

PROUD MEMBER OF GEOCACHINGMAINE.ORG

You are searching for a plastic camo covered lock n lock, near the hull of The Edith. Years ago, when Frankfort was one of the richest towns in the country, this town park was the site of Mt Waldo's granite carving and shipping operation. The Edith used to sail from Frankfort to many locations on the east coast, her hull filled with granite. You can see where the cranes used to load her were anchored, down stream from the boat launch. She has been here, in her final resting place, for decades and there is a lot less of her visible then when my parents used to drive me by when I was a kid. When you search for this cache, be aware that this was a huge facility and there are many pieces of rusty equipment, in unlikely locations, as well as lots of brown wire cables that are not easily seen. Walk with caution. For that reason, this cache is NOT recommended for children or people with mobility or balance issues. Be aware that this area needs CITO and there may be trash and broken glass nearby. Not recommended for night caching due to terrain, equipment, and parties and 'encounters' that go on here after dark. This property borders on a wildlife preserve and is a great place to bring your binos and camera and do some birding. Congrats to Mainiac1957 and Hollora for the co-FTF!
