Eggs...like Rabbits and Hares are symbols of fertility. From the egg comes the birth of birds symbolizing Spring. Rabbits and Hares are known to have many babies on each litter.
For the German traditions we inherited through the earlier German settlers, the tradition of the Easter Bunny that brought candy, sweets and presents to the children. Pretty much like Santa..right?
For the Catholics and many other religions from Christianity, Easter signifies the end of lent. A 40 days period of fasting, prayer and penance. Remembering the pain and sorrow of the Crucifixion to the joy of the resurrection!
