From carpark at O'Shea Road:
Signposted times are:
Carpark to bush boundary fence 30 min.
Carpark to Wharauroa Peak 2 hrs.
Now we are not fitness fanatics by any means
We just love mucking in.
Our times were 15min to the bush boundary and then another hour
to the Peak.
Track conditions vary here and we had a dampish ascent
underfoot.
The track is well defined with lots of trail markers.
It has lots of obstacles to deal with, mainly tree roots, mud holes
etc.
The track is generally up and up and up with the odd "are we there
yet" sections and a more trying section 200m from the peak
summit.(be warned).
It actually was slower coming down trying to avoid ankle
injuries...

The Peak itself is an awesome spot with 360º views and well
deserving of the hike.
We checked the weather forecast in advance as would not recommend
being caught out up here in the rain.
There are still some perfect days all year round to do this
hike.
This peak is accessible from the Pirongia lodge as well and is
longer and has several chain assisted rock climbs.
No pictures of the views however, you will have to see them
yourself.
Ok now the cache details..because of the
conditions up here the cache container is in another blue container
for weather proofing all up about 1.5L.
The log book is bagged and swaps and pen included but bring a pen

Please take the time to ensure the cache is sealed and that the
outer container is sitting on its lid as to help it seal....And
that the cache is tucked away well out of site.Thanks.
