rocky arbor Multi-Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
'Rocky arbor' is a multi-cache of three Waypoints, the second of which is a virtual 'question to answer' waypoint.
'Rocky arbor' has a small cache at the posted coordinates (Waypoint 1) containing coded coordinates for a virtual waypoint (Waypoint 2) some 220m away as the crow flies. It also contains two questions you need to answer from your visit to WP2, which will reveal the coordinates for WP3 (GZ). Crack the code with this verse:
Consider a QWERTY keyboard,
Characters arranged in oblique.
If a Q becomes 1 and a P becomes nought
The pattern is set, just repeat.
This cache hunt will take you to two rock outcrops which are significant for different reasons. About 25m up the slope from the cache at WP1 is a memorial set on a rock, so please respect the site.
The significance of the outcrop at the virtual waypoint (WP2) is the magnificent tree growing straight out of the rock. This challenging site for a tree has produced a truly wonderful specimen of Eucalyptus Mannifera (if I'm not mistaken): Brittle Gum. Observe 'where tree meets rock', follow the massive roots, and ponder the forces of nature at work to produce an outcome like that. I have been to this site at first light and at other times of the day, often sharing it with some watchful, bounding local wildlife.
The terrain rating reflects the fact that there are no tracks to the caches (other than those made by 'roos on the move through the grass, perhaps). If you are coming by car, there is plenty of parking along the northern verge of Sulwood Drive, which will get you pretty close to WP1.
I hope you enjoy getting out to these foothills of Mt Taylor and seeing the outlooks they offer.
P.S. There are a variety of 6 x 4 colour prints of 'rocky arbor' in the cache container at Waypoint 3 (GZ). You are welcome to take a print as a memento of your cache hunt.
