Becca's Walk - Croeso i Gymru (Welcome to Wales)
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions

This cache is placed beside a public footpath which runs through Llanymynech Golf course
The course boasts a unique claim to fame in that you can play one round of golf in two separate countries, courtesy of Offa's Dyke running through the course. On the 4th hole you tee off in Wales and putt out in England. The 5th and 6th hole remain in England before you are cordially welcomed back into Wales on the 7th tee.
This is one of a series of 13 caches entitled "Becca's Walk" they will take you through some lovely undulating countryside along Offas Dyke path and other public footpaths crossing Llanymynech Golf course and Llanymynech Quarry. There are some amazing views, a wide variety of plant / wildlife and some nice picnic spots along the way.
Please respect the users of the golf course and be aware that parts of this walk go through a SSSI. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
The whole walk is approximately 3.5 miles and should take around 2 hours. It will include some very steep slopes and in places you will be close to some vertical cliffs. Please take care.
Thank you to Shropshire Wildlife Trust who have kindly given permission for this cache to be placed.

Why Gymru and not Cymru?
In Welsh there are soft and hard mutations, in which the first letter of certain words is changed depending on the words that precede it. This is supposed to make the language easier to say.
The nearest English equivalent is something like "an honest" where the word 'a' is changed to 'an' because the following word is 'honest'- except in Welsh, it's the latter word that changes, not the earlier one.
So it is the same word ("Cymru"- Wales) and when used on its own it will be "Cymru" but in certain sentences it will become "Gymru".
On the sign you will see that they obviously got it wrong first time!
