An hour-long muddy and wet spring hike
to a large container of goods. The route to the cache starts off on
one of the typical clay backroads south of Chippawa, which leads to
a trailhead. This takes you onto a grassy path criss-crossed with
field run-off and flooded motorbike/ATV tire ruts. Make sure to
bring rubber boots instead of hiking boots! This is definitely a
kid-friendly and dog-friendly hike, if you can stand the mess
afterwards. Deer tracks can be found everywhere and the open fields
allow for good turkey watching. We spotted them in four different
locations as we hiked out. The final is in a secluded area with a
dry place to sit and take your time sorting through goods.
Summer visitors
might be able to drive to
the trailhead, but use caution in deciding whether to attempt it.
Also, could visitors later in the year let me know the moisture
conditions inside this cache? After finding a recent bone-dry
Dhcmca cache with drain holes, this bucket is my experiment at
seeing whether drilling similar drain holes in the bottom of a
cache will allow daily condensation out, or backfire and introduce
moisture in instead.
