Geocache Description:

The cache is located at the entrance to this historic camp. The gate is usually locked since it is private property, but there is no need to enter the camp. It has been placed with the kind permission of the South Florida Council. Beware of cars that travel this long, straight stretch of road. You may also want to be on the lookout for snakes and other wildlife.

Camp Everglades is a great, natural property owned by the South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America. The 253-acre campground is located WITHIN the Everglades National Park. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets are common in this campground with clear views of the horizon in the east and the west. The campground is primarily pine rockland forest with eight primitive campsites. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with over 4.5 million youth members in its age-related divisions. Since its founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110 million Americans have been members of the BSA. The BSA's goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is part of the program to inculcate typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking.
