Geocache Description:

High clearance vehicle essential. Cache is on State Trust land and requires a permit. Be fully prepared for a very long day and hike. Watch out for desert critters!

What attracted me to this spot was the 1935 Benchmark CZ1912 marked "LOMA", which was not found by any Geocacher (see my log 4/22/11). This is my 3rd attempt to get there. The first time, I planned to go South off of Florence-Kelvin Hwy. It turned out that the road shown on maps is Private with a locked gate. On the 2nd trip, I thought that I could reach it from my other caches to the South, but found that the location is surrounded on 3 sides by Private Property. The only way I found to get there legally is from the West in the 96 Hills area of State Trust Land. But, I did not find suitable trails to drive anywhere close. I hiked in something over 4 mles one way through the desert. When I got close, I did finally come across a very old, unused "road", but I have no idea where it goes. When you think you're finally there, then you have a climb to 2800 ft....OH, what FUN! Don't forget to also look for the Benchmarks. DO NOT be misled by the small pill bottle by the rerod bar, which is a SUMMIT log and not the CACHE!
