A fairly long walk along the "best beach in Australia".
In 2004, the Surf Life Saving Society of Australia (SLSA) received the results of a study it commissioned from Sydney University's Coastal Studies Unit. Dr Andrew Short who ran the study examined every one of the 11,011 beaches for safety, access, cleanliness and "quality".
When asked which came top of the list, Dr Short said his "favourite" was Vivonne Bay. This cache celebrates what every resident of the south coast of KI knew anyway, that this is the "best beach in Australia".
The cache is an ammo box with "geocaching.com" written on the outside. There is a pathtag for the FTF and a few beach-related trinkets for swaps.
YOU MAY need to check when the tides are high: some waves reach very high up the beach. There is also a creek 1.5 km along which may be running out to sea at some times of the year, but is easily crossed, you'll just get wet feet.
DO NOT attempt to access the cache by the tracks visible on satellite images, they are on private property and are OFF-LIMITS to everybody. The cache is not on private property.
DO NOT trample the dunes or the vegetation - it is very fragile and will blow away in the strong winds.
Watch for hooded plover nests in the sand. These little birds are threatened and should not be disturbed by trampling geocachers who should be looking at the great views. You might be lucky and see an osprey or a white-bellied sea-eagle.
