Arrow Junction has a rich history for this area of Northern Idaho. This is where the Potlatch Creek joins the Clearwater River.Where Hwy. 3 joins with US 12 Hwy. 3 goes North to Juliaetta, Kendrick and St. Maries etc. and 12 going east and west.
This was also a railroad junction with a Station house, ticket sales, with a family living here. The railroad is also nonexistant now . The railroad going north has been completly removed and the tracks east seing a train very seldom. Two train accidents occured near here. The first was just north and the train went into the Potlatch during high water. The other I saw and it was just down river from here if my memory severs me right.
The bridge across the river was buit a few years ago to replace the old and ice damaged bridge at Spalding park. The building of this bridge changed the river flow. Prior to the bridge there was a very nice beach and swimming hole used by many during the hot summer days.
Oh, yes, this is low country so you might want to prod with a stick before your hand. Snakes and other critters could be present.
I accesssed this cache from a parking areaon Hwy. 3. This is a turnout used by a local rancher to get to his catle. It is right next to a Hwy. 3 bridge. There is a larger turnout just up Hwy. 3 from here but you won't need it unless you have a very large vehicle or would like to walk a little futher. Parking cords are 46 28.375 and 116 46.319
