Geocache Description:

On the outskirts of Lockhart lies the Lockhart Showground. Many events are held here,as well as many Lockhart race meetings. A recent Government Grant upograded the grandstand to its present glory. The entrance gates are just as impressive and a proud feature for the locals.

Lockhart has may historic buildings and one is the unique Showground Grandstand (1906) built on a brick foundation using local Murray Pine. It was built for the inaugural Lockhart Agricultural and Pastoral Society show that year and is now classified by the National Trust. The Pioneer Memorial Gates at the showground list the names of the district's early homesteads on 22 imitation wool bails.
