Geocache Description:

This traditional cache is meant to replace the original multi cache that was placed as the sixth in a series of micro's hidden in Brantford parks. All of them are stand-alone caches, and are not tied into a final stage.

The reasons for placing these caches are to increase the number of caches hidden in the Brantford area, to provide cachers with a brief history of the parks they will be visiting, and to give cachers the opportunity to enjoy some of the beautiful surroundings in "The Best Blooming City" in Ontario! Please take a pen or pencil with you.

This small neighbourhood park honours Andrew William Pate (1890-1944), who farmed the area which now comprises a housing development in the NE end of Brantford.

Andrew Pate was a reknowned horticulturalist, well respected by other farmers and often sought after for his advice. He was always on the leading edge of modern farming, taking every opportunity to advance his livelihood with the newest innovations in technology.

The land where the park is situated was sold to developers in 1973 by Pate's son, James, after the city annexed the county lands comprising that portion of the farm.

Formerly an apple orchard, this little park has open green space, a variety of trees and flowering shrubs, park benches, and the ever popular playground equipment, which makes this little park a favourite place for the whole family.

The park is used for organized mini soccer in the summer and public ice skating in the winter, thanks to the Branlyn Neighbourhood Association volunteers who maintain the rink.

A little bridge at the north end of the park provides access to the much used paved bike trail that parallels a portion of the Powerline Road, Wayne Gretzky Parkway area.

Beware of Muggles! Use extreme stealth at ALL times!

NOTE - New playground equipment has been added in 2017!
