Geocache Description:

On display at this fire station is a 1923 vintage yard type fire extinguisher. It has a 40 gallon capacity, and 50 feet of drag rope and reel. Back then, use of this unit was ideal for factories and lumber mills, such as the old mill at Flounder Bay (now Skyline community), and it operated from 1923 to 1952.

In 1998, the Kiwanis Sunrisers of Anacortes donated materials and time to restore this nearly 90-year old extinguisher and construct a shelter for its lasting protection. Much thanks goes out to them!

The Anacortes fire chief gave his specific approval for the placement of this cache. The cache's location would not cause seeking cachers to impede or interfere in anyway with the movement or maintenance of firefighting vehicles or other other equipment called for in their emergency line of duty.

Your job is to find this cache without tampering with the extinguisher, or tromping through the vegetation. The cache can be clearly seen, and you don't have to leave the cement slabs to reach it. Please place it back exactly as you found it!! BYOP.

Park at N48* 29.955; W 122* 40.517. This would be on the south side of Highway 20 (Sunset Ave.) just west of the the western entrance to the fire station. There is ample room to park, and one can safely enter and exit their vehicle not having to worry about any oncoming road traffic. Do not block entry and exit access for the fire engines.

This is a kid-friendly cache, and although your kid may not be able to reach in, under, or up to grab the cache, they certainly might be the one to spot it.
