Emungalan Graves Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This small cemetery (unknown even to most locals), contains four identified graves, and is the most visible remnant of the once thriving but short-lived town of Emungalan. Emungalan was the southern terminus of the North Australia Railway in the period 1918-1926.
This railway was originally intended to go all the way from Darwin to Alice Springs. (90 years on and it finally does)
Terrain is easy and accessible via Stuart Highway or a track off Zimin Drive which takes you to the spot.
For travellers on the Stuart Highway, just park your van and wander 70metres over the old railway - terrain is fairly flat. For others take the track on Zimin Drive in front of the "Florina Road" road weight restrictions sign.
Wet Season cachers may opt to walk in via the Stuart Highway
The cache is a 1inch tube about 15 cm long & placed in the confines of the railway tracks boundary at the site
