Geocache Description:

You are looking for a small brown round lock n lock n lock container. At busy times, like this Easter weekend when it was placed, you will need to be wary of muggles, therefore it's been given a 2 difficulty rating.

We were surprised to find there wasn't a cache already here. As there wasn't we decided to place one to bring added enjoyment to Geocachers visiting this place.

It's an easy walk in along a dirt path - just be careful of foot placement. There is one spot where you have to step-stone across a small creek. Once you reach the hideout you will be amazed at the size of the boulders and the narrow spaces apparently made by splits from the mother rock. You can walk through and out the other side of the large boulders and continue a little way past them on a narrow path.

The story is of course, that the bushranger/outlaw known as Thunderbolt and his gang would take refuge here when needed. He was a busy man throughout this region and we have visited another one of his hideouts near another town further south.

Only about a kilometre up the road there is a pathway that takes you in to see some WW2 Tank Traps that were never recovered. They are well signed so you shouldn't miss them. It is usually possible to walk to them from the parking for Thunderbolt's Hideout however this path was blocked by a fallen tree when we were there. A sign further up the road though allows access closer. These are large poles placed close enough to prevent the Japanese tanks from heading south during World War 2 should they invade Australia from the north (the government was willing to let them have the best part of Australia further north. lol.) When I was a child living in Sydney our beaches had large pyramid shaped concrete blocks that were placed to prevent a shore landing invasion there. Most have been removed now.
