Umsizi: Hi Kingrobert

Due to no response after the request to maintain or replace the cache, I am archiving it to, stop it showing on the listings and/or to create place for the geocaching community.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival. This is explained in the Help Center.

If the CO feels that this cache has been archived in error please feel free to contact me within 30 days, via email or message via my profile ,quoting the GC number concerned

Geocache Description:

This short hiking trail (FOREST WALK) is located at the Van Staden's Wild Flower Reserve .

The Forest walk trail is a total length of 4.5km. Some of the signage along the route shows incorrect distances. From the starting point to the lookout it is 2.1 km and continuing on the trail through this small island of natural forest back to the start /end is 2.4km.On the return you pass over a small perennial stream , which makes a good spot to enjoy a picnic in the shade of the trees, where moss covers the rocks.

The trees in this pocket of forest have been marked with identification plates. I was thinking of making use of these numbers so as to make it a multistage cache , but decided against that , so as you can enjoy this most unexpected short walk.

The cache has been named Twist to the Bridge because when standing at the look out point , the arch of the bridge is perceived to have a twist. This is an illusion obviously created by the viewers position in relation to the bridge.

Allow two hours for the walk including a trade at the cache, which is a 0.8L L&L. Please take a pen for the cache , as the one that was destined to write great logs would not perform.

The gates open at 07h00 during the week, 08h00 at weekends and Public Holidays and close at 18h00 in summer and 17h00 in winter (1 May – 31 August). There is no entry fee.
There are signs all over the flower reserve encouraging you to get out of the car and walk

The reserve was proclaimed in 1951, which makes it the oldest reserve of its kind in the country. The 450 hectare reserve is protected to ensure that the excellent variety of plant, bird and animal species that occur here remain unharmed. It houses a nursery which sells indigenous flora, as well as scenic picnic sites on the plateau connected by a number of paths and tracks as well as by road. An ablution block is situated near the entrance. There are a number of flat gravel roads and tracks on the plateau section running through the reserve, which are ideal for exploration on a mountain bike.
