the Marine Corps , was founded in 1775 Nov. 10 . The continental Congress approved ( 2 ) two battalions . It was started in a small tavern in Philadelphia . Samuel Nicholas was it's first Officer . A captain of marines . It's first engagement was on March 3 . 1776 .

Today if your abroad and walk into an American embassy , the first thing you'll see is a Marine guard . protecting our soil ( abroad ) .
When the president of the United States lands on the White House grounds , He was being flown there in Marine 1 , piloted by a US Marine Officer ( air winger ) LOL
On board Large fighting ships of the US Navy there is a US marine detachment .( sea duty ) charged with protecting , the captain . and other dutied aboard , the sovereign property of the United States .. I'm getting ahead of my self .
