Geocache Description:

A cache hidden at the very pretty and seldom visited Conroy's Dam.

This cache is Alex's school holiday hide as he thinks the road to this cache site is quite awesome!

Conroys Dam was built in 1935. It was built across Conroys Gully and was built to store water for irrigation for the developing orchards in area. It is a beautiful spot, especially in summer as it is a great spot for fishing for Brown Trout, hunting for Koura (fresh water crayfish) or just having a leisurely swim. In winter, the lake itself can freeze over in parts due to the extreme cold in the valley.

The cache itself is a 200ml container containing only a log book. There is no pen with it so take one with you. The cache is hidden on the far side of the dam hence there is about a 10-15 minute return walk to the cache from the suggested carpark area.

Be very wary if coming here in winter or after a good frost, the path to the cache site involves crossing over the top of the dam, and while this path across the top of the dam is perfectly safe if not a little intimidating, it is concrete and could be very slippery. The same goes for the path to the dam wall.

Enjoy the scenery, please shut the gate you have to drive through on the way in and the way out and remember to practice some CITO if the area needs it.
