There seems to have been a real proliferation in challenge caches recently, with most of them hidden in the Nelson region.
Well, it seemed wrong to leave without returning the favour, so here's another challenge cache, aimed at keeping the challenge cache placers busy...
The final cache is hidden at the listed co-ordinates, however you MUST complete the geocaching challenge below in order to gain permission to log this cache.
New Zealand has some diverse terrain and diverse climatic conditions.
The NIWA web site gives an educational overview of New Zealand’s climate, breaking it down into zones on the map at this link; (visit link)
In this web site, the NZ climate is broken down into 12 zones (including Mount Cook, the Chatham Islands and Antarctica).
Your mission is to complete 5 caches in each of 8 of those zones.
Of the 5 caches in each zone;
> at least 1 in each zone (excluding the Chathams or Antarctica) must be greater than 500M in altitude
> at least 1 in each zone must involve at least a one hour walk / one hour bicycle ride / one hour kayak or involve a swim (any one of these options).
The web site also shows three other maps. You will need to complete the following challenge based on two of them;
One showing 8 different NZ mean annual rainfall zones
One showing 6 different NZ mean annual sunshine hours zones
You need to do 2 caches in each of 8 different zones chosen from either of these two maps.
You cannot count a cache for more than one of these requirements.
As with the other local challenge caches, only cache finds subsequent to the listing date of this cache can be counted towards this challenge cache.
Bonus question for honours students (optional only - not required to log the cache) - try to guess the story behind the working title that I gave this cache. Post an email to the cache owner and do not post it with your log. If you guess correctly, I'll add your name to an honours role on this cache page.
