The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by
many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of
paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have
‘walked’ before
us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities
across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The
cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries,
tombstones and local
lore.
The Creedmoor Community Cemetery (or "Cemetary", according
to the sign) is a small site that is easy to sail past unknowingly.
Half of the fence along the road is gone and there is no gate, and
the entry drive is a highly informal affair to say the least. The
headstones range in date from 1896 to 2009. The markers for some
graves have been scattered a bit, although it appears that some
upkeep is done here. The cache is located at the rear of the
cemetery. While access is not restricted, it might be best to NOT
try this one at night, as the nearby living neighbors might not
care to see flashlights bobbing about in the darkness, and the
faint of heart amongst caching-kind might find the gnarled and dead
trees back there a little
ominous.
